Czech President Petr Pavel stated that the republic should participate in a peacekeeping mission in Ukraine if such units are deployed in the country.

He said this in an interview with the ČTK news agency, as reported by Radio Prague International.

Pavel emphasized that Czechia can and should take part in implementing this plan, as it has been an active participant in the peace process and has supported Ukraine since the beginning of Russia’s full-scale invasion.

However, he noted that the specific form of participation in the peacekeeping mission would depend on the terms of the agreement.

According to the Czech leader, creating a demilitarized zone would be a logical step. At the same time, Pavel believes that, in the interest of reaching a ceasefire agreement, Ukraine might have to make territorial concessions.

Meanwhile, Czech Defense Minister Jana Černochová previously stated that, at the government level, no concrete decisions have been considered yet. She explained that if, after a ceasefire, Czech troops are involved in a peacekeeping mission in Ukraine, it would follow the example of the conflict resolution in the former Yugoslavia — meaning Czech units would not be stationed directly on the front line.
