Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Italian Republic to Ukraine, H.E. Pier Francesco Zazo, met with Odessa Mayor Gennady Trukhanov, on May 21.
Odessa was the first Ukrainian city visited on an official visit by the new Italian Ambassador, who took up his duties four months ago.
Odessa is connected with the history of Italy. Many architects have left their mark here, so I came here to discuss the further development of our trade, economic and cultural relations.

During the meeting, the Italian delegation discussed with the Mayor's team about the Office of Restoration and Urbanism recently established in Odessa. It includes Italian experts, who can provide academic support in preserving the unique architectural heritage of Odessa, created by Italian architects. According to the Ambassador of Italy, this initiative will help restore cultural tourism.
Moreover, H.E. Pier Francesco Zazo announced during the meeting the establishment of Honorary Consulates of Italy in the cities of Ukraine, including Odessa, and, with the support of the Odessa mayor, the opening of the Italian Cultural Center in the city.
It is worth mentioning that Odessa is the city of birth of Leone Ginzburg (4 April 1909), Jewish intellectual, who became an important writer, journalist and anti-fascist opponent in Italy, in 1930s.
