Odessa has launched a unique cultural initiative, “Port of Memory: Odessa, Cinema, Community,” supported by the Ukrainian Cultural Foundation. The project will, for the first time, present the maritime genre in Ukrainian cinema as a cohesive cultural phenomenon.
The initiative is being implemented at the Museum and Exhibition Complex of Odesa Film Studio, where it will showcase stories, artists, and cinematic imagery that shaped Odessa’s “maritime” film language. The project aims to merge the city’s cultural heritage with film art, creating a new focal point for both audiences and researchers.
Organizers emphasize that this is just the beginning. Visitors can look forward to upcoming events, exhibitions, and unexpected perspectives that will offer fresh insights into Odessa’s unique history through the lens of cinema.
The project is part of the grant programme “Cohesion Through Culture,” implemented by the Ukrainian Cultural Foundation and financed by the Swiss-Ukrainian project UCORD (Cohesion and Regional Development of Ukraine). Its implementation is supported by Switzerland through the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation and the company NIRAS Sweden AB.
