The exhibition "Prayer for Ukraine" is dedicated to Ukraine and the heroic fight of the Ukrainian people. It highlights current events in Ukraine through the prism of art, particularly the aggression of the russian federation against Ukraine, the war initiated by russia, and its impact on Ukrainian society, culture, and identity. It demonstrates that even after two years of war, Latvian society and artists continue to unite in support of Ukraine and maintain the #StandWithUkraine movement. Ukrainians sincerely appreciate and value these acts of solidarity.
The exhibition "Prayer for Ukraine" is a symbolic event for many, as it marks the opening of the first art exhibition at the Ukrainian House in Latvia, filling the space with beauty, genuine art, and meaningful messages. Talented musicians, including Latvian singer of Ukrainian descent Kateryna Hupalo and Ukrainian singer Constantine, created a pleasant atmosphere with their musical accompaniment.
It is worth noting that one of the artworks, the painting "Do Not Touch" by Maria Zen'kova, will be presented to the Embassy of Ukraine in Latvia and will participate in an auction to support Ukraine on Ukraine's Independence Day, August 24, 2024. Maria Zen'kova is a Ukrainian artist who serves as the coordinator and curator of the "Prayer for Ukraine" exhibition at the "Ukrainian House in Latvia."
Overall, the "Prayer for Ukraine" exhibition features 38 art objects, including graphic, painting, and sculpture works, as well as medals created by 17 renowned Latvian and Ukrainian artists, among them: Kaspars Berzins, Gunta Brakovska, Girtis Burvis, Juris Hermanis, Eliza Dane, Vija Dzintare, Ilgavars Zalans, Maria Zen'kova, Laine Kainaize, Svitlana Kislova, Andriy Kislov, Ieva Muzikante, Talivaldis Muzikants, Emils Kristians Muzikants, Velta Riekstinja, Janis Streics, Janis Strupulis.
The "Prayer for Ukraine" exhibition is part of the "Dedication to Ukraine" project, initiated in 2022. The project's author is Venta Kotsere, director of the Academic Library of the University of Latvia. With the support of the Riga Latvian Society and the Academic Library of the University of Latvia, seven traveling exhibitions have been held, constantly updated and supplemented with new creative works by artists. The project unites Latvian and Ukrainian artists who express support, solidarity, and a common desire for peace and freedom through their works.
The "Prayer for Ukraine" exhibition at the "Ukrainian House in Latvia" (Strugu Street 4, Riga) will run until August 22. Working hours are Tuesday-Saturday from 10:00 to 19:00. Admission is free.
The exhibition is organized with the assistance of the Embassy of Ukraine in Latvia and the financial support of the Latvian charity foundation "Ziedot.lv."
