On the night of January 3, Russia launched 93 drones targeting Ukraine. Air defense managed to shoot down only two-thirds of them.

This was reported by the Ukrainian Air Force.

"During the night of January 3, the Russian forces attacked with 93 strike UAVs of the 'Shahed' type and various other drone models, launched from the directions of Bryansk, Millerovo, and Orel," the statement said.

The air raid was countered by aviation, anti-aircraft missile forces, electronic warfare units, mobile fire groups of the Air Force, and Ukraine's Defense Forces.

"As of 9:00 a.m., 60 strike UAVs of the 'Shahed' type and other drones have been confirmed destroyed," the military reported.

Air defense operations were active in the Poltava, Sumy, Kharkiv, Kyiv, Chernihiv, Cherkasy, Zhytomyr, Donetsk, and Dnipropetrovsk regions.

Additionally, due to the Defense Forces' active countermeasures, 26 drones were lost due to localization issues, and one was destroyed in the air.

The Russian drone attack caused several strikes on private enterprises and residential buildings in Donetsk and Chernihiv regions. Notably, Russian forces struck a residential building in Kramatorsk with a drone.

The downed 'Shahed' drones also caused damage in the Kyiv region. Several private houses and vehicles were damaged in various districts. Tragically, there was one fatality and multiple injuries in the Kyiv region due to the Russian attack.

In Kyiv, a woman was injured as a result of the attack. Debris fell in two districts of the capital. Additionally, the Russian forces conducted an airstrike on the city of Sumy on January 3. While there were no fatalities, injuries were reported.
