A vocational college in the Kyiv region, which was completely destroyed by Russian forces in 2022, will be rebuilt with support from South Korea. The partners have allocated $14.9 million for the restoration. A protocol to start the cooperation was signed by the Director of the Korean International Cooperation Agency in Ukraine, Tekin Lee, Minister of Education and Science of Ukraine, Oksen Lisovyi, and the Head of the Kyiv Regional State Administration, Ruslan Kravchenko.

South Korea is one of the leading countries in vocational education development, and its investments and expertise will help modernize this field more effectively in Ukraine.

"We continue to seek and attract funds for the reconstruction of educational institutions destroyed by Russia. Unfortunately, due to the cynical attacks of the enemy, we have more than 350 destroyed educational institutions. However, we see how the world is uniting around Ukraine to help restore justice. And today, we have another international partner in this mission," said Oksen Lisovyi.

What will the rebuilt vocational college look like?

  • Spacious: The new educational building will cover 7,900 square meters.
  • Modern: The college will feature updated educational and production facilities, including a library, an auditorium, and a gym.
  • Equipped with modern tools for practical skills development.
  • Safe: The vocational school will have reliable shelters.

The restored college will be able to accommodate 1,200 students, 400 of whom will be adults enrolled in retraining programs.

The restoration of the college will provide the opportunity for high-quality training of specialists for the country's rebuilding in fields such as construction, electrical engineering, and automotive transportation. The college will train professionals in these areas.

"In total, 245 educational institutions were damaged or destroyed in the Kyiv region due to the full-scale invasion. We have already restored 209 of them. Significant assistance is being provided by international partners. Together, we are bringing children back to quality and, importantly, safe education," added Ruslan Kravchenko.

The South Korean government is supporting Ukrainian education not only in terms of reconstruction but also by promoting digitalization. In cooperation with UNICEF, South Korea is developing updated courses for the All-Ukrainian Online School platform and providing students with devices for effective online learning.
