The American space technology company SpaceX has limited Ukrainian military access to Starlink satellite communications to control drones.
This was stated by the company's president, Gwynne Shotwell, Reuters writes. She explained that the company does not want the Ukrainian military to use SpaceX technology for offensive strikes.
"Starlink was not designed to be a weapon," Shotwell said.
She clarified that the contract with Ukraine stipulates only humanitarian purposes for using SpaceX equipment.
In particular, the company's terminals helped provide communications to Ukrainian hospitals, banks, and the front line. However, the use of Starlink for drones is outside the scope of the agreement, she said.
Asked if those outages were related to SpaceX’s efforts to curb offensive use of Starlink, Shotwell said: “I don’t want to answer it because I’m not sure I know the answer.â€
