The Crimean Human Rights Group (CHRG) received the Human Rights Tulip 2023 award from the Embassy of the Netherlands in Ukraine and was nominated for an international prize. This was announced by the head of CHRG, Olga Skrypnyk.
"Extraordinary people from 10 countries (Mexico, Brazil, South Africa, Libya, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Myanmar, Turkey, Latvia, Iraq, and Ukraine), who defend human rights in challenging conditions," wrote Skrypnyk.
According to her, among her colleagues are those who spent years behind bars for their unwavering stance or those whose relatives were killed for their resistance.
"Despite everything, they continue to fight for a better life in their countries. Colleagues in human rights understand what is happening in Ukraine, support us, and consider Ukraine's victory a chance for all other countries to achieve justice," emphasized Skrypnyk.
She also noted that during the solemn ceremony at the Peace Palace in The Hague, the song about human rights defenders became a particularly emotional moment.
The author and performer of the song wrote it based on the biographies of 10 participants.
The "Human Rights Tulip" is an award from the government of the Netherlands, initiated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Since 2008, it has been awarded annually to human rights activists and organizations supporting human rights globally.
