The Diia app has started beta testing a new document – a digital firearm permit.
This was announced on Telegram by Vice Prime Minister and Minister of Digital Transformation of Ukraine, Mykhailo Fedorov.
"The document you've been waiting for is already in 'Diia'. Use the digital firearm permit, generate an extract from the Unified Weapons Register, and receive notifications about the expiration of the document," the message reads.
The permit is launched based on the electronic weapons register, which became operational in 2023.
According to Fedorov, initially, the document will function in beta testing mode. Users will be able to generate the permit in Diia, view full information about all their firearms, and see the status of the document. As the document’s expiration date approaches, a push notification will alert the user, allowing them to renew the permit online via the Ministry of Internal Affairs website.
To use the new service, users need to update Diia and add the document.
Fedorov believes that the electronic permit in the app cannot be forged, and the police will be able to instantly verify its legality and the owner's information, reducing the risk of illegal firearms circulation.
For his part, Minister of Internal Affairs Ihor Klymenko noted that, in collaboration with the Ministry of Digital Transformation, the Unified Weapons Register (UWR) had been modernized for full integration with Diia, making the service "more convenient and accessible."
