Latvian Minister of Internal Affairs Rihards Kozlovskis stated that due to Latvia's position in supporting Ukraine, there are risks of elements of hybrid warfare that Russia may direct against Latvia, and these risks of provocations are increasing.
As reported by LSM, when asked about the possibility of provocations on the day of remembrance of Latvian legionnaires on March 16, the politician responded:
"I wouldn't even want to tie this to any specific date. But I think the likelihood of provocations is increasing every day. We have a consistent stance: our state stands for Ukraine and always supports it, maintaining a high standard at the European level. We have taken a number of steps – I think this is obvious."
Although attempts of illegal border crossings on the eastern border are almost non-existent now, Kozlovskis does not believe it will remain so in the future.
"Yes, there are risks. And we are doing everything to preventively prevent them. But I will be frank: the risks exist, and they are increasing. (...) Possible reactions and elements of hybrid warfare that Russia may use against Latvia, given our forward policy, which is absolutely unacceptable for the Kremlin," he said.
However, the minister added that he has no information about any specific risks of provocations. Overall, they are not significant enough to become a matter of concern for the defense department.
"We will definitely inform the public if there are identified risks for any measures," Kozlovskis said.
