Counterintelligence of the Security Service has exposed another agent of the main intelligence directorate of the armed forces of Russia (known as the "GRU") in Kharkiv. He was involved in adjusting rocket and artillery strikes by the Russian Federation on military and critical infrastructure in the regional center.

The perpetrator was identified as a 49-year-old associate professor at one of the Kharkiv universities, who was remotely recruited by Russian military intelligence after the start of the full-scale invasion.

Among the agent's main tasks was documenting the consequences of missile and artillery strikes on one of the defense enterprises in the Kharkiv region, which had been repeatedly shelled by Russian-occupied forces.

The offender also tracked the routes of movement of Ukrainian Armed Forces units and the locations of logistical warehouses, including those containing ammunition and supplies for Ukrainian soldiers.

Another task assigned to him was monitoring the activities of foreign volunteer organizations in Kharkiv.

Security Service personnel exposed the agent of Russian military intelligence and apprehended him in his own residence in the regional center.

According to the investigation, he transmitted intelligence to the Russian GRU through a messenger in the form of text messages and markings on electronic maps.

During the searches at the detainee's residence, a mobile phone and computer equipment with evidence of collaboration with the aggressor were seized.

Based on the collected materials, the Security Service investigators informed the Russian agent of suspicion under Part 2 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (state treason committed in conditions of martial law).

Currently, he is in custody, and the investigation is ongoing. The perpetrator faces the possibility of life imprisonment.
