During a multi-stage special operation, the Security Service detained a combatant from the Wagner group, sent by Russian military intelligence (GRU) to Ukraine for subversive activities. His mission was to travel from Belarus to the Rivne region to coordinate Russian air attacks on our country's energy infrastructure.
The SSU learned about the aggressor's plans while the hostile saboteur was still in Belarus. Since then, the Ukrainian security service systematically documented his criminal actions from crossing the state border to the execution of the sabotage mission in Ukraine.
As a result, the perpetrator was apprehended in the act as he attempted to attach several GPS trackers to the supports of power lines supplying the Kyiv agglomeration. The occupiers intended to adjust the targeted strike on energy facilities based on the signals from these trackers, including the use of Shahed-type kamikaze drones.
The investigation revealed that the detained individual is a Belarusian citizen embedded in the Russian GRU's agent network. From 2014 to 2017, the foreigner was part of the terrorist groups in the "L/DPR" regions, participating in hostilities against the ATO forces in eastern Ukraine.
At the onset of the full-scale Russian invasion, the fighter joined the Russian private military company "Wagner," participating in the storming of Bahmut and adjacent settlements. Later, he returned to Belarus, receiving orders from his GRU military intelligence handler to prepare subversive activities on the border territory of Ukraine.
