The Swiss government has submitted an updated free trade agreement with Ukraine to parliament.
The Swiss Federal Council on Wednesday sent a draft federal decree to parliament for the ratification of the Free Trade Agreement between the states of the European Free Trade Association (EFTA) and Ukraine.
This was reported on the Swiss government’s website.
“The Swiss Federal Council on 12 November 2025 approved the message (Botschaft) to parliament regarding the updated Free Trade Agreement between the EFTA states and Ukraine. Through this agreement, Switzerland demonstrates solidarity with Ukraine at a critical time and at the same time strengthens its competitiveness in the Ukrainian market,” the statement reads.
It is noted that the updated agreement includes new sections on e-commerce, sustainable development, small and medium-sized enterprises, and technical cooperation, and also provides for the elimination of tariffs on almost all Swiss goods (99.9%).
The Federal Council emphasized that Switzerland continues to support Ukraine through development programmes, humanitarian initiatives, and reconstruction projects, including the country’s recovery agreement, which is currently at the consultation stage.
The parliament is expected to consider the document during the spring or summer session of 2026, with the agreement potentially entering into force at the beginning of 2027.
