In the Institute of Chemistry and Chemical Technologies at Lviv Polytechnic University, specialists are now being trained in the field of "Biomedical Engineering." This information is reported on the Lviv Polytechnic University website.

The national university "Lviv Polytechnic" has introduced an educational-professional programme, "Technologies of Orthopedic and Rehabilitation Medical Devices," within the specialty "Biomedical Engineering." This programme is adapted to the educational programmes of the best universities in Europe. Future specialists in prosthetics are being trained at the Department of Chemical Technology of Plastic Processing (CTPP).

"Until now, Ukrainian higher education institutions have not paid sufficient attention to the training of prosthetics specialists, although this year three specialized enterprises equipped with modern equipment and materials have started operating in Lviv," the university says.

Students in this educational programme study biomechatronics, the design and engineering of biomedical products, and the equipment for their formation. They also explore the modeling of biomedical systems, technological properties, and the quality of materials for orthopedic purposes.

"Specialists in this field must not only have skills in the development, application, and engineering support of tools and technologies aimed at restoring lost organs, organ parts, and their functions but also possess certain knowledge of medicine and psychology. This is especially important to overcome psychological aspects in working with individuals in need of prosthetics and orthotics," says Associate Professor Mikhaylo Bratychak from the department. "Therefore, our students study various medical disciplines such as human anatomy and physiology, pathology, rehabilitation, functional anatomy, and pathology of the musculoskeletal system. These are essential for understanding the needs of patients who have undergone amputations, in rehabilitation and orthopedic devices, and to support them on the path to recovery and a fulfilling life.

In the first year of the bachelor's programme in this specialty, eight students were selected from 48 applicants, and there are fourteen students currently enrolled in the master's programme."
