In the coming weeks, Ukraine will reach the peak incidence of COVID-19, but there are no plans to introduce a lockdown.

This was announced by the Minister of Health Viktor Lyashko.

We predict 40 - 60 thousand per day, and in the coming weeks. That is, in a week or two, Ukraine will reach peak values in terms of the number of cases of coronavirus disease

Viktor Lyashko

He noted that these figures are twice as high as the peak values of the past wave of the disease, but a third less deaths are expected.

Lyashko also stressed that a lockdown is not expected in Ukraine, since the country has an adaptive quarantine, which “has shown its effectiveness in 2021.”

According to him, ten regions were not included in the “red” zone at all in the spring wave of 2021, and six in the autumn wave.

He clarified that the spread of the coronavirus disease, the registration of the number of cases and the burden on the healthcare system are heterogeneous, “and when one area can go out of the“ red ”level of epidemic danger, another can enter it. Therefore, there will be no nationwide lockdown.”

We expect to go through adaptive quarantine in order to get ahead of this golden mean: so that the healthcare system does not experience a collapse and there is as little impact as possible on the economy of our country,” the minister explained.

The Ministry has provided a number of preparatory steps for the preparation. The new package "Preparedness for medical care in the context of the spread of infectious diseases, epidemics and other emergencies" will allow permanently to ensure the stability of key infectious diseases institutions, regardless of the stage of the epidemic. The Medical Guarantees Programme for 2022 envisages almost UAH 2.5 billion in this area. Each facility under this package will receive more than UAH 1 million per month for the readiness to receive patients and provide them with appropriate medical care.

118 oxygen stations have already been purchased with a government subvention and are currently being installed in hospitals. In addition, Medical Procurement purchased 225 autonomous container-type oxygen stations. Thus, after completing work in one year, the number of permanent oxygen stations in the country will increase almost eight times.

97% of "covid beds" in Ukraine are supplied with oxygen, today the stock of unoccupied beds - more than 44 thousand units. More than two-thirds of the allocated oxygen beds are now vacant and ready to accept patients with COVID-19 if needed.
