Imports

More than 30 million tonnes of imported goods were delivered to Ukraine last year, of which almost 11 million tonnes were delivered by trucks.

The volume of imports increased most rapidly from March to May. At this time, the sector managed to return to the volume of international road freight traffic that Ukraine had before the full-scale invasion of russia. From May to the last day of the year, the volume of imported goods that were brought into the country by road was constantly and gradually growing.

The second largest volume of imports into the country was by rail (9.89 million tonnes), and the third largest was by sea (7.16 million tonnes).

Exports

The leader in the export of goods last year was maritime transport, with 53.86 million tonnes. The second largest was the railway (33.73 million tonnes). The third largest was road transport (12 million tonnes).

In total, in 2022, Ukraine exported almost 99.8 million tonnes of goods and imported more than 30.34 million tonnes. The exports value amounted to almost USD 44.2 billion, while imports totaled more than USD 54.5 billion.

The key factors in the normalization of trade logistics in 2022 were:

  • agreeing on the Grain Initiative with the UN and Turkey, which allowed to unblock the ports of Odessa region;
  • signing of an agreement liberalizing the carriage of freight by road with the EU;
  • development of border infrastructure, including increasing the capacity of existing road and railway border crossing points, as well as opening new ones;
  • increase of cargo transshipment in the ports of the Danube port cluster.
