Ukraine’s Minister of Defense Denys Shmyhal and Sweden’s Minister of Defense Pål Jonson signed a Letter of Intent on joint production of defense products in both countries.

The document between the defense ministries formalizes the efforts of the two countries and creates conditions for implementing joint projects in the defense industry.

The letter also expresses the intention to continue exchanging technology and expertise in the production of weapons and military equipment to strengthen the resilience and self-sufficiency of Ukraine’s and Sweden’s defense sectors.

During a meeting in Kyiv with his Swedish counterpart on August 23, Denys Shmyhal thanked the people and leadership of Sweden for their “steadfast support of Ukraine in all areas during the repulsion of Russian aggression,” including joining the PURL initiative and allocating USD 486 million jointly with Norway and Denmark.

The Ukrainian side briefed the Swedish delegation on the current battlefield situation and the key needs of Ukraine’s Defense Forces.

The delegations discussed prospects for cooperation in military aviation, including pilot training and joint projects between Swedish and Ukrainian companies.

“I thanked the Swedish government, in particular, for providing ASC 890 reconnaissance and control aircraft,” said Ukraine’s Minister of Defense.

Near-term cooperation prospects include working on military innovations to accelerate their practical implementation and developing joint production. The delegations also discussed enhancing collaboration in space technology.
