In January – February 2025, Ukraine shipped 226,000 tons of grain for export through the Romanian port of Constanța, which is significantly lower than the same period last year (1.33 million tons).
This is reported by Baird Maritime, citing data from the port administration.
'The drop reflects Kyiv's reliance on its own ports despite Russian attacks on shipping and infrastructure, though Constanta remains Ukraine's main alternative export route for grains since Russia launched its full-scale invasion in February 2022,' the report says.
The total grain export through Constanța in January – February this year amounted to 2.55 million tons.
In total, the port data, excluding volumes transshipped through smaller Romanian ports and direct export by rail and road, showed that Ukrainian grain shipments through Constanța last year amounted to 6.23 million tons.
Since February 2022, Romania has helped export almost 29 million tons of Ukrainian grain through Constanța.
