Law enforcement is investigating 49 criminal cases regarding the murder of 124 prisoners of war on the battlefield.

This was reported by Denis Lysenko, head of the Department for Counteracting Crimes Committed in Armed Conflict Conditions at the Prosecutor General’s Office, during a TV broadcast.

"We are currently analyzing all these cases, looking for patterns and regularities. We are already building cases against senior Russian military commanders who, in our opinion, may be involved in organizing such crimes or failing to take measures to stop them and punish those responsible. Therefore, we are examining all these cases comprehensively, and the involvement of specific armed units is being analyzed in each particular case. However, this does not absolve commanders of responsibility," he said.

According to Lysenko, the number of murders of Ukrainian defenders during their surrender to captivity started to increase at the end of last year and reached unprecedented levels this year. The most cases have been recorded in the Donetsk region.

He also reminded that yesterday in Donetsk region, additional cases of Ukrainian prisoners being murdered during their surrender were registered. These incidents occurred on October 23 in the eastern part of the city of Selydove, where three prisoners were killed, and on November 1 near the village of Vyshneve in the Selydove territorial community, where three more prisoners were shot by the Russian forces.
