In Tartu, Estonia, a film programme showcasing films about Ukraine, prepared in collaboration with the Ukrainian Institute, will be presented.

The film programme “Ukraine. Breakthrough Years” will be one of the events in the European Capital of Culture, which in 2024 includes the Estonian city of Tartu among others.

The selected films depict a free and bold Ukraine from the 1980s to the present through high-quality documentary cinema. The programme will help the viewer plunge into turning points in Ukrainian history for better understanding the path that Ukraine has taken from restoring its independence to the fight against Russian aggression and for the sake of protecting European values.

The programme includes 10 films

  • “The Kyiv Files,” dir. Walter Stokman, 2023
  • “EuroDonbas,” dir. Kornii Hrytsiuk, 2022
  • “Yours Vasyl,” dir. Svitlana Rudyuk, Oleksandr Avsharov, 2020
  • “Gongadze’s Murder. 20 Years in Search of the Truth,” dir. Maksym Kamenev, Natalya Gumenyuk, Anna Tsygyma, 2020

  • “Orange Revolution,” dir. Steve York, 2017
  • “Ukraine. Starting Point,” dir. Serhiy Bukovskyy, 2011

Before each film screening, discussions with the filmmakers and other industry experts will engage the audience.
