In 2024, demining units under Ukraine's Ministry of Defense successfully cleared 252,823.23 hectares of land from explosive devices, with 232,105.76 hectares comprising agricultural areas.
In addition to agricultural land, the following infrastructure was cleared:
- 538.64 km of roads,
- 163.26 km of power lines,
- 444.94 km of railways,
- 52.41 km of pipelines,
- 178.49 hectares of residential areas,
- 37 hectares of water bodies.
During the year, sapper teams identified and neutralized 137,821 explosive devices, bringing the total number of disarmed ordnance since the beginning of Russia's full-scale invasion to 416,877 units.
The humanitarian demining effort expanded significantly in 2024, with 48 new operators obtaining licenses, raising the total number of certified demining organizations to 72. These entities are authorized to conduct demining operations in non-combat zones as per Ukraine’s Law on Mine Action.
Demining efforts were carried out by the Armed Forces of Ukraine and the State Special Transport Service, under the supervision of the Ministry of Defense’s Main Directorate of Mine Action, Civil Protection, and Environmental Safety. The initiative reflects a robust commitment to restoring safety and usability to deoccupied territories.
