The theaterâs doors opened on September 4th, 1900. The high artistic level of its performances has allowed the Lviv National Opera and Ballet to become the first Ukrainian theater to join the international music association Opera Europa (2008) and UNESCOâs International Dance Organization (2017). Today the theaterâs repertoire includes nearly five hundred operas, operettas, ballets and concert programmes, from classic works to Ukrainian composers (D. Bortnyansky, M. Lysenko, Yu. Maytus, M. Skorik, J. Stankovich, I. Nebesny).
A work that has survived decades of oblivion, having been forgotten by the Soviet government. The new premiere of the fairy tale by contemporary Ukrainian composer Eugene Stankovich took place on stage at the Lviv National Opera in 2017. This exciting performance combines modern musical language, choral art, over a thousand folk rituals and traditions, and contemporary choreography and stage design including video projection.
