UNESCO has added 20 cultural sites in Ukraine to the list of objects under enhanced protection

UNESCO has included 20 cultural objects in Ukraine in the list of values under enhanced protection, as reported by the Ministry of Culture. They have submitted the relevant request to the Secretariat of the Hague Convention, and the initiative received support at the UNESCO committee.

The majority of these objects already belong to the UNESCO World Heritage List or the previous list. Excluded from consideration were only objects in temporarily occupied territories, as well as the historic centers of Odessa and Chernihiv.

These are the objects included under enhanced protection by UNESCO:

1. Saint Sophia Cathedral and related monastery buildings, Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra.

2. Lviv - Ensemble of the Historic Centre.

3. Wooden Churches of the Carpathian Region of Poland and Ukraine - Yasynian Church of the Ascension of the Lord.

4. Wooden Churches of the Carpathian Region of Poland and Ukraine - Zhovkva Church of the Holy Trinity.

5. Wooden Churches of the Carpathian Region of Poland and Ukraine - Matkiv Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary.

6. Wooden Churches of the Carpathian Region of Poland and Ukraine - Nyzhnoverbizka Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary.

7. Wooden Churches of the Carpathian Region of Poland and Ukraine - Potelych Church of the Descent of the Holy Spirit.

8. Wooden Churches of the Carpathian Region of Poland and Ukraine - Rohatyn Church of the Descent of the Holy Spirit.

9. Residence of Bukovinian and Dalmatian Metropolitans.

10. Struve Geodetic Arc - Katerynivka.

11. Struve Geodetic Arc - Baranivka.

12. Struve Geodetic Arc - Fel'shtyn.

13. Struve Geodetic Arc - Staro-Nekrasivka.

14. Kyiv National University Astronomical Observatory.

15. Cultural Landscape of Canyon in Kamianets-Podilskyi.
