Ukrainian Language Week begins on Wikipedia on October 1, during which participants will create and improve articles about the Ukrainian language and literature.
“On October 1, Ukrainian Language Week begins on Ukrainian Wikipedia — an annual campaign marking the Day of Ukrainian Writing and Language. Until October 25, participants will create and improve articles about the Ukrainian language and literature. Ukraine’s Ministry of Culture traditionally supports this initiative organised by the NGOs Wikimedia Ukraine and Creative Elite of Ukraine,” the statement said.
Organisers have suggested a range of linguistics topics, from orthography, phonetics and syntax to the history of Ukrainian spelling, dialects, slang and neologisms.
A separate section is dedicated to Ukrainian literature, including articles about writers, literary works and the literature of individual regions. This year, particular attention will be given to works included in the Ukrainian literature school curriculum.
The Ministry of Culture noted that Ukrainian Language Week on Wikipedia offers another opportunity to promote the Ukrainian language, make a personal contribution to the development of high-quality Ukrainian-language content, and increase the visibility of Ukrainian culture worldwide. The Ukrainian-language section of Wikipedia will gain more articles devoted to the Ukrainian language and literature, prominent linguists and writers, and various linguistic phenomena.
The campaign is open to everyone with a Wikipedia account, including those who have never edited articles before. Participants can select a topic from the suggested lists or propose their own.
Participants who create or substantially improve at least three articles will receive a souvenir and a letter of appreciation, and will also be eligible to receive a diploma or certificate of participation.
