The 23-year-old Ukrainian tennis player Dayana Yastremska has set a new personal record on the Grand Slam tour. She will be competing in the semifinals of a major tournament for the first time, achieving this milestone in the 2024 Australian Open. Yastremska is also the first Ukrainian woman to reach the semifinals of the Australian Open, and she is only the second winner of the qualifiers in the Open Era (since 1968) to advance this far through the tournament.
After her victory, Yastremska wrote a message of support for Ukrainian soldiers participating in the war against Russia on the camera lens. In English, she stated,
"I am proud of our fighters from Ukraine," accompanied by a drawn heart.
