If power is not urgently restored to the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant, there will be an accident, the State Nuclear Regulatory Inspectorate warned.
The plant has been without its 750 kV transmission line on occupied territory for 9 days due to damage. Currently, nuclear fuel in all six reactors is being cooled through the operation of safety systems powered by diesel generators.
“We characterize this as an emergency situation that has not yet turned into an accident, but it may do so if urgent response measures are not taken — in particular, the immediate restoration of external power supply,” said Oleg Korikov, head of the State Nuclear Regulatory Inspectorate.
