President Volodymyr Zelensky handed over a list of 400 Ukrainian children, illegally taken to Russia, to the leader of South Africa, Cyril Ramaphosa.
This became known during a joint briefing of the two state leaders following their negotiations.
"Today [April 24], I handed President Ramaphosa a list of 400 Ukrainian children, and this is very important for us, as they are in Russia against their will. Unfortunately, due to the war, we have this terrible problem," Zelensky said.
He added that the Russians have abducted tens of thousands of children from Ukraine and occupied territories.
"We must return all of them, just as we must return thousands of prisoners—military and civilians—who have been held in Russian prisons for years, in inhumane conditions," the president emphasized, adding that South Africa is a co-leader of the international coalition to return Ukrainian children.
Zelensky expressed hope that Ramaphosa would help Ukraine bring back the children illegally taken to Russia.
