Italian media holding Linkiesta and Ukrainian PEN will launch a publishing house for Ukrainian and Italian literature named Vika in honor of the late writer Viktoria Amelina next year, the organization announced on its website.
Over the next three years, the publishing house plans to release translations of 11 classic Ukrainian works, including those by Valerian Podmohylny, Viktor Domontovych, Lesya Ukrainka, and two poetry anthologies. They also plan to translate contemporary Italian prose into Ukrainian. These works will be distributed as part of the PEN programme Unbreakable Libraries.
"Viktoria Amelina's active involvement inspired us to name the literary publishing house in her honor," says Linkiesta's editor-in-chief, Christian Rocca.
Translator, journalist, and cultural manager Yaryna Hrusha will join the publishing house's efforts.
Viktoria Amelina was a Ukrainian writer and war crimes documenter. She died on July 1, 2023, from severe injuries sustained in a Russian strike on Kramatorsk on June 27. At the time of the strike, Viktoria was in a city restaurant with a delegation of Colombian journalists and writers.
