five Ukrainian tennis players, led by Elina Svitolina, will start in the first round of the French Open.
This was reported at the official tournament website.
Five Ukrainian women are guaranteed to participate in the main draw of the French Open this year. The organizers of the second major of 2024 have published a list of 104 tennis players who will begin their quest for the trophy from the round of 1/64.
Ukraine will be represented at the Grand Slam tournament by Elina Svitolina, Marta Kostyuk, Angelina Kalinina, Dayana Yastremska, and Lesia Tsurenko. The national top seed will compete on the Parisian clay for the eleventh time. Alongside her is the experienced Tsurenko (making her 10th appearance).
Four other Ukrainian women have made it to the reserve list. However, the chances for Daria Snigur and Yuliia Starodubtseva to move into the main list are slim. Both would need more than thirty tennis players to withdraw from the entry list. Meanwhile, Kateryna Baindl and Katarina Zavatska may prepare for the major's qualifiers.
"Roland Garros 2024" will commence on May 26 and run until June 9.
