In 2025, Russia is expected to face an increasing labor shortage in its job market. The aggressor country has already lost over 1.5 million working-age citizens.

This was reported by the press service of the Foreign Intelligence Service of Ukraine.

According to intelligence, this year the Russian labor market is expected to experience:

  • a slowdown in wage growth rates;
  • the unemployment rate remaining at its current level;
  • an intensifying labor shortage.

"Due to the war, the Russian economy has already lost between 1.5 to 1.7 million working-age citizens," the SZR specified.

They also added that the forecast for the Russian labor market in the long term is negative: by 2045, the labor market will shrink by 7–10 million people from the current 76 million employed citizens.

"The worsening labor market situation deepens stagflation processes in the Russian economy – increasing inflation due to rising wages, declining production levels, and bankruptcies of several enterprises," the intelligence service added.

The Foreign Intelligence Service emphasized that the shortage of working-age population is one of the reasons why the Russian authorities have not declared mobilization.
