Russia launches nighttime drone strikes across Ukraine

Russian forces carried out a series of nighttime drone and artillery attacks across multiple Ukrainian regions, leaving several civilians dead and many injured, while damaging homes, infrastructure, and vehicles.

In Odessa region, strike drones hit the Odessa district overnight, injuring one person. The head of the Odesa Regional State Administration, Oleh Kiper, reported this on Telegram.

He said that despite the effective work of the air defense forces, a building of a sewage pumping station was damaged. In the suburbs, dry grass caught fire as a result of falling debris. The fire was quickly extinguished. A gas station security guard was injured when the blast wave shattered the glass. The man sustained multiple cuts to his arm. Medics provided all the necessary assistance, and the wounded man is now continuing outpatient treatment, Kiper emphasized.

In the Kyiv region, 21 private houses were damaged in the Bucha district after a Russian drone attack. Regional governor Mykola Kalashnyk said three women, including a young woman, suffered acute stress reactions but did not require hospitalization. Damage ranged from broken windows to partial destruction of buildings, with outbuildings, garages, two unfinished apartment blocks, and 10 cars also affected.

In Sumy region, Russian forces struck 47 settlements nearly 110 times between August 7 and 8.

Attacks included:

  • 25 VOG drops from drones,
  • over 20 guided aerial bomb strikes,
  • and about 10 MLRS salvos.

FPV drones also targeted civilian areas. An 88-year-old woman in Seredyna-Buda suffered severe stress after helicopter shelling, and a 46-year-old man was wounded when a drone dropped an explosive device. In the Sumy community, a 54-year-old man was injured in another drone strike. Civilian infrastructure, homes, cars, and shops were damaged in several communities, including Druzhba, Velyka Pysarivka, and Shostka.

In Zaporizhzhia region, the Russian military launched 545 strikes on 14 settlements in the past 24 hours, killing two people in the Polohy district. Governor Ivan Fedorov reported eight airstrikes, 369 drone attacks, eight MLRS strikes, and 160 artillery strikes on towns including Mala Tokmachka, Orikhiv, Huliaipole, and Kamianske. At least 15 homes, apartments, and vehicles were damaged.

In Dnipropetrovsk region, the Nikopol and Kryvyi Rih districts came under attack. Regional governor Serhii Lysak reported artillery and FPV drone strikes on the Pokrovske, Myrove, and Marhanets communities, as well as the city of Nikopol. Damage included a dormitory, private houses, outbuildings, garages, and a car. One home caught fire but was extinguished by firefighters.

In Kherson region, Russian drone and artillery strikes targeted more than 30 settlements, including Kherson city, Antonivka, Komyshany, and Beryslav. Governor Oleksandr Prokudin confirmed one civilian was killed and another wounded. Damage was reported to apartment buildings, private houses, a gas pipeline, and vehicles.
