Russian forces executed six captured Ukrainian Armed Forces soldiers in the Pokrovsk direction. Law enforcement has launched an investigation.
This was reported by the press service of the Office of the Prosecutor General.
"According to operational data, on October 23, 2024, during an offensive on the city of Selydove, Russian military captured three Ukrainian soldiers. After some time, the occupiers shot the unarmed prisoners of war," the statement reads.
Additionally, on November 1, during an assault on Ukrainian Armed Forces fortifications in the same Pokrovsk direction, Russian invaders killed three more prisoners of war with automatic weapons. The Office of the Prosecutor General emphasized that these actions are violations of the Geneva Conventions and qualify as international crimes.
Under the procedural guidance of the Donetsk Regional Prosecutor’s Office, pre-trial investigations have begun regarding war crimes that led to the deaths of prisoners of war (Part 2, Article 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
Ombudsman Dmytro Lubinets noted that he informed the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) and the United Nations about these Russian crimes, stating that "this is not about isolated incidents but about systematic violations of the Geneva Conventions."
"International organizations must document this!" he emphasized.
