The border areas of Sumy and Kharkiv regions are experiencing the most intense shelling by Russia.

This was reported by Andriy Demchenko, spokesperson for the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine, during a television broadcast.

“Currently, the highest number of attacks is being recorded in Sumy and Kharkiv regions. At the same time, although the intensity of shelling in Chernihiv region is lower, it also remains daily and is carried out by the terrorist state,” Demchenko said.

He noted that the Russian forces are now more frequently using unmanned aerial vehicles, in particular FPV drones and drones that drop munitions. According to him, artillery shelling prevailed at the end of 2024, but Russia has since changed its attack tactics.

Demchenko emphasized that the Russian strikes not only the positions of Ukrainian defenders but also border settlements.

“The threat to people staying in those settlements and in general in areas located as close as possible to the border with Russia remains high, as shelling there is the most frequent. Local authorities are constantly urging residents to evacuate and are carrying out such evacuations. At the same time, unfortunately, not everyone is willing to do so and remains in these settlements, thereby primarily putting themselves and their families at risk,” the SBGS spokesperson said.
