The Minister of Defense of Ukraine held his first meeting with the newly appointed Ambassador of Japan to Ukraine, Masashi Nakagome.
The parties discussed current security challenges and ways to strengthen cooperation between Ukraine and Japan.
The head of the Ministry of Defense expressed gratitude to the Japanese government and people for their support of Ukraine amid Russian aggression, emphasizing the importance of strategic partnership between the two countries.
During the conversation, special attention was given to the role of North Korea in supporting the Russian armed forces.
"North Korea has sent 11,000 soldiers to the Kursk region. This increases the risk of transferring modern military technologies from Russia to the North Korean regime, which creates new threats not only for Europe but also for Asia," stated Rustem Umerov.
The Minister of Defense of Ukraine also suggested that Japanese partners consider funding non-lethal assistance, particularly in the field of demining, as well as supporting Ukrainian industry.
"We will continue close contacts to strengthen the security of our countries in the face of common threats," emphasized Rustem Umerov.
