In the first ten months of 2024, DTEK Energy invested about 2.6 billion UAH in repairs and restoration of thermal power generation and continues intensive work on restoring thermal power plants despite the start of the heating season and the unprecedented scale of destruction.
“What Ukraine’s energy system has endured in two and a half years of war is unparalleled worldwide. Thermal generation has been at the center of massive Russian attacks, with 90% destroyed or damaged. However, Ukrainian energy workers have taken on this challenge, working day and night to restore as much capacity as possible,” said Oleksandr Fomenko, CEO of DTEK Energy.
Overall, by the end of 2024, the company’s investments in repairs and restoration of thermal power plants are expected to reach 3.8 billion UAH.
Since the start of the full-scale invasion, DTEK Energy’s thermal power plants have been attacked nearly 190 times. These attacks have injured 56 power plant workers, with three lives lost. From March to June alone this year, the company’s TPPs suffered seven massive attacks.
DTEK Energy ensures a closed-cycle coal-based electricity production. As of January 2022, the company’s installed capacity in thermal electricity generation was 13.3 GW. In coal mining, DTEK has established a complete production cycle: mining, coal enrichment, machinery production, and maintenance of mining equipment.
