Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, nearly 10,000 km of railway tracks in Ukraine have been damaged, destroyed, or lost.

"Since February 24, 2022, nearly 10,000 km of tracks and 43 station buildings have been damaged, destroyed, or lost. There are also damages to other infrastructure facilities," the report states.

According to a report by the Kyiv School of Economics (KSE), which covers the period from February 2022 to January 2024, the total length of damaged railway tracks is up to 507 km. Additionally, 126 railway stations and depots have been damaged or destroyed, of which more than 55 are in areas under Ukrainian control, and the rest are in territories not controlled by Ukraine.

Specifically, more than 700 km of railway tracks are in occupied territories.

In total, 5,500 buildings and nearly 4,000 structures owned by Ukrzaliznytsia have been damaged, destroyed, or lost.

Moreover, rolling stock of the joint-stock company, which was not evacuated in time from these territories, is considered lost, destroyed, or stolen by the aggressor’s forces.

Analysts estimate the total direct losses to the railway infrastructure at $4.3 billion.

Thus, since February 24, 2022, nearly 10,000 km of railway tracks, 43 station buildings, and other infrastructure facilities have been damaged, destroyed, or lost in Ukraine.
