The Military Counterintelligence of the Security Service of Ukraine (SSU) thwarted another attempt by the Russian forces to obtain current data on the Ukrainian Defense Forces in the Black Sea area.
As a result of comprehensive measures, an FSB agent was detained, who had been gathering intelligence on the Ukrainian Armed Forces' ship bases and movement routes near the Odessa seaport.
According to available information, the Russian forces planned to use this data to prepare combat operations in the maritime zone using cruise missiles and kamikaze drones.
To direct Russian weapons "around" Ukrainian air defense systems, the agent was additionally tasked with identifying the firing positions of anti-aircraft missile systems and mobile fire groups of the Defense Forces.
The investigation revealed that the traitor had been driving along the coastline of the regional center in his own car, covertly taking photos and recording the geolocations of military sites on his phone.
The collected information was sent to his Russian handler via messenger. The agent's identity and other personal details have already been established by the Security Service.
SSU officers documented the agent's crimes step by step and arrested him at his residence in Odessa.
The Security Service also carried out comprehensive measures to secure the positions of the Defense Forces in the southern region.
During searches at the detained agent's home, a mobile phone and computer, which the criminal had been using to communicate with the FSB, were found.
According to the investigation, the traitor is a 37-year-old unemployed man from Odessa, who came to the attention of the Russian forces while seeking quick earnings through Telegram channels.
The SSU investigators have informed him of the suspicion under Part 2 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (high treason committed during martial law).
The criminal is currently in custody without the right to bail. He faces a life sentence with asset confiscation.
