The SSU’s Military Counterintelligence, with the assistance of the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and the Commander of the Unmanned Systems Forces, has detained another suspected FSB agent in the Donetsk region.
The suspect is a machine gunner serving with one of the Ukrainian Armed Forces’ unmanned systems brigades who, according to the SSU, was recruited by the Russian intelligence service and provided targeting information for strikes on his own unit’s positions in the Kramatorsk sector.
Investigators found that the serviceman passed information to Russian forces about his company’s movements and combat missions.
He also allegedly reported to the Russian intelligence service on the consequences of Russian strikes against his unit’s positions on the front line.
SSU officers identified the suspected agent during the early stages of his activities and detained him while he was preparing another report for the FSB.
According to the investigation, the suspect was recruited by Russian operatives through a Telegram channel used for finding romantic relationships.
After agreeing to cooperate with the Russian side, he allegedly began marking the locations of Ukrainian troops on Google Maps and secretly photographing military facilities with his phone.
During searches, investigators seized a mobile phone that the SSU said contained evidence of his cooperation with the FSB.
SSU investigators have notified the suspect of suspicion under Part 2 of Article 114-2 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine — unauthorised dissemination of information about the movement or location of the Armed Forces of Ukraine committed under martial law.
He is being held in custody without the right to bail and faces up to eight years in prison.
The investigation is continuing to determine whether his alleged actions should also be additionally classified as high treason.
