The Security Service of Ukraine (SSU) has detained another Russian agent in Kharkiv. He turned out to be a recently mobilized 45-year-old resident of the city, who was remotely recruited by the Russian military intelligence in August of this year.
Under the Russian instructions, the individual was supposed to coordinate an airstrike on one of the units of his brigade in the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
In exchange, the Russian special services promised to "evacuate" the agent to the aggressor country, where he planned to join the Russian army and fight against Ukraine. To direct fire, the individual marked the "necessary" locations on Google Maps and sent the corresponding screenshot to his Russian handler.
The agent also conducted reconnaissance near the combat positions of the Ukrainian air defense, which the occupiers hoped to "bypass" during a missile attack.
According to the instructions from Russian military intelligence, before the Russian shelling, the traitor was to arrive at a designated location on the front line, while the occupiers were to create a "corridor" for him to cross the front line.
However, SSU officers acted preemptively, and as soon as they documented the agent's criminal actions, they detained him while he was preparing for "evacuation" to Russia.
In addition, during the special operation, the SSU conducted comprehensive measures to secure the positions of Ukrainian forces, completely thwarting the aggressor's plans. During the search, mobile phones used by the detainee for communication with the Russian special services were seized.
Based on the evidence obtained, the SSU investigators informed the individual of his suspicion under Part 2 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (treason committed under martial law). Currently, the perpetrator is in custody without the right to bail. He faces life imprisonment with confiscation of property.
