Sweden and Denmark have jointly contracted the production of over 200 CV90 infantry fighting vehicles, with 40 of them designated for Ukraine.

The announcement was made on the Swedish government website.

Sweden's Defence Material Administration and Denmark's Ministry of Defence Procurement and Logistics Organization signed a contract with BAE Systems Hägglunds for the joint purchase of 205 CV9035 Mk.IIIC combat vehicles, valued at $2.3 billion.

“These investments will enable more Swedish combat vehicles to make Europe – and particularly Ukraine – safer. The Swedish defence industry is a unique and strong asset to our national and collective defence capabilities,” says Minister for Defence Pål Jonson.

According to the contract, 115 vehicles will be delivered to Denmark, and 50 will go to Sweden to replace the CV9040 infantry fighting vehicles that were transferred to Ukraine from Sweden’s military reserves.

The remaining 40 vehicles are intended for Ukraine. Their production has been funded through earlier financial aid from Denmark and Sweden.

In addition to the vehicles themselves, the contract includes provisions for technical support, spare parts, logistics, and training.

The CV9035 Mk.IIIC is the latest version of the CV90 combat vehicle, developed in 2023 according to the Dutch modernization standards for CV9035NL MLU vehicles.

The new infantry fighting vehicle is based on the CV90 third-generation chassis and features a new D35 turret, designed for the next generation of vehicles. It is equipped with a Bushmaster III 35mm automatic cannon and has been designed with lessons from the Russo-Ukrainian war in mind.
