On November 6th, at 5:15 PM, in one of the settlements in the Kyiv region, a 39-year-old man was killed in a grenade explosion. He worked as an assistant to General Valeriy Zaluzhny, the Chief Commander of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Similar information was provided by the National Police. According to the police, the explosion occurred in the village of Chaiki "due to careless handling of ammunition." The 39-year-old serviceman died, and his 13-year-old son was seriously injured and hospitalized. It was also reported from our sources, citing the man's wife, that he had come with gifts for his birthday. An explosion occurred when one of the gifts was opened. It is likely that the gift contained a box with a bottle and glasses.
Chief Commander of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, General Valeriy Zaluzhny, has already expressed his condolences regarding the tragedy.
"Unspeakable pain and a heavy loss for the Armed Forces of Ukraine and for me personally. Today, under tragic circumstances, my assistant and close friend, Major Gennadiy Chastyakov, died on his birthday in the family circle. An unknown explosive device went off in one of the gifts. Gennadiy is survived by his wife and four children. My deepest condolences to the family," wrote General Zaluzhny in his Telegram channel.
Later, this information was commented on by the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
"All circumstances will be thoroughly and objectively examined. Currently, information is coming in real-time, so we need to allow the investigators to work, gather evidence, conduct all the necessary examinations, and interviews as part of the pre-trial investigation. Only then will we have an objective picture. According to our information, the 13-year-old son sustained serious injuries and is under medical supervision," added the spokesperson for the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
