The turnout in the recent presidential elections in the Russian Federation has become the highest in modern Russian history, stated the head of the Central Election Commission of Russia, Ella Pamfilova. According to her, over 87.1 million Russians, or 77.44% of voters, visited the polling stations.
Pamfilova stated that the record turnout was ensured by the three-day voting period, the "Mobile Voter" system, and voter information campaigns.
The Russian Central Election Commission did not announce the final voter turnout for more than 12 hours after the end of the three-day voting period.
Previously, the highest turnout in presidential elections was recorded in 1991 when the president of the RSFSR was elected, with a turnout of 74.66%. The previous record turnout in the 21st century was reported by the Central Election Commission in 2008, when it reached 69.81%.
The Russian Central Election Commission plans to announce the final results of the presidential elections at a meeting on March 21. According to preliminary data from the CEC, after processing 99.75% of the protocols from the electoral commissions, Vladimir Putin received over 87% of the votes. The other candidates received less than 5% of the votes.
