The Directorate General for Human Rights and the Rule of Law of the Council of Europe has set up an expert group to support the Prosecutor General's Office of Ukraine in investigating war crimes.
This is stated in the press service, according to "European Pravda".
The Advisory Group was set up after consultations between the Secretary General of the Council of Europe Marija PejÄinović Burić and the Prosecutor General of Ukraine Iryna Venediktova.
The group included British Monckton Chambers lawyer Jeremy McBride and Nona Tsotsoria, a former European Court of Human Rights judge and former deputy attorney general in Georgia.
"The Advisory Group has begun providing expert advice at the strategic level to the Prosecutor General of Ukraine and its Office to investigate gross human rights violations in the context of the ongoing war related to European human rights standards and international humanitarian law," the statement said.
Earlier, Council of Europe Secretary-General Marija PejÄinović Burić called for an investigation into the atrocities of the Russian military in Bucha and brought the perpetrators to justice.
The EU Advisory Mission also supports this work.
