The European Commission has officially recommended ending grant funding for the Venice Biennale after the opening of the Russian pavilion at the event.
The announcement was made by European Commission Vice-President Henna Virkkunen on the social media platform X.
“The Commission officially recommends EACEA to terminate the €2 million grant to the Venice Biennale,” the post reads.
According to Virkkunen, the recommendation was adopted following a thorough analysis of the Venice Biennale’s explanations regarding the decision to open the Russian pavilion.
