Despite the ongoing war in Ukraine, the European Film Festival is returning to Russia. In 2023, the festival will take place from November 1 to 15 in an online format, showcasing the best films from the European Union over the past few years.
The opening of the festival is dedicated to the day the European Union was founded on November 1, 1993, with the entry into force of the Maastricht Treaty.
"This year, the festival has special significance as we are resuming the screening of European films after a one-year break," stated Roland Galharague, the Ambassador of the European Union to Russia.
The festival was canceled last year due to Russia's invasion of Ukraine.
The slogan for this year's festival is "Cinema Unites!"
The programme of this year's festival includes 21 films from Belgium, France, Germany, Spain, Italy, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, the Czech Republic, Denmark, and other EU countries, as well as two films produced jointly by Russian and European film studios.
All films will be shown in their original languages with Russian subtitles. It's worth noting that the festival's film screenings are only available within the territory of Russia.
