The European Union has added pro-Russian politician Viktor Medvedchuk, who is suspected of state treason in Ukraine, his associate, former top manager of the TV channel "112 Ukraine" Artem Marchevsky, and the propagandist media project associated with Medvedchuk, Voice of Europe, to its sanctions list.
This was reported by the Russian service of Radio Free Europe, citing the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic.
"At the proposal of the Czech Republic, three individuals who work in favor of the Kremlin regime have been added to the European Union's sanctions list. The restrictions that the Czech Republic has already imposed on them will now apply in all 27 EU countries," the Czech department said.
The sanctions include freezing the assets of the sanctioned individuals and a ban on entry into EU countries.
In March, Czech intelligence reported the discovery of a network allegedly aimed at disinformation and attempting to influence the upcoming European Parliament elections in June. The Voice of Europe project, owned by a Prague-registered company of the same name, is claimed to have played a key role in this network. In addition to spreading pro-Russian narratives through its website and social media platforms, the project allegedly served as a tool for financial payments to pro-Russian politicians in several countries, including Germany. Czech intelligence claims that the project is financed by Medvedchuk, with Marchevsky managing it.
