Bucha tells the true story of volunteer Kostiantyn Gudauskas, a Kazakh citizen who has lived in Ukraine since 2021. His Kazakh passport enabled him to navigate Russian checkpoints and evacuate civilians. During Russia's occupation of Kyiv Region in spring 2022, he saved 203 civilians, including the family of Ukrainian composer Ihor Poklad.
The film was created without state funding, relying instead on donations and private contributions from individuals in Ukraine, Poland, Canada, and the United States.
