The European Union must form its own united army, which would play a role in maintaining peace and preventing conflicts.
This was reported by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Italy, Antonio Tajani, in an interview with La Stampa.
According to Tajani, closer cooperation within the EU in the defense sector is a priority for his party, "Forward, Italy." If the bloc wants to be a peacemaker in the world, it needs an army, which is a fundamental prerequisite for having an effective European foreign policy.
"In a world with such powerful players as the United States, China, India, Russia, and crises from the Middle East to the Indo-Pacific region, Italian, German, French, or Slovenian citizens can be protected only by what already exists, namely the European Union," he added.
In particular, Tajani is convinced that the EU, consisting of 27 countries, should reorganize its leadership and have a single president instead of the current structure, which consists of the President of the European Council and the President of the European Commission.
