US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin, during his speech at the Ramstein format meeting in Brussels on Wednesday, listed five reasons why Ukraine's fight against Russian invasion is significant, reports European Truth.
"Everyone here understands the stakes... and why Ukraine's fight for defense matters. Ukraine matters because Putin's choice of war is a significant and acute threat to European security," Austin said.
Secondly, he noted that Ukraine matters because Russian aggression clearly challenges our NATO allies.
Thirdly, Ukraine matters because Russian atrocities against the civilian population violate our shared values and threaten the rule of law.
Fourth, Ukraine matters because Russian attacks on Ukrainian grain intentionally cause hunger and suffering for innocent people worldwide.
And fifth, Ukraine matters because if major states can invade their peaceful and democratic neighbors with impunity, it will undermine the rules-based order that has made the world much safer since the end of World War II.
"This is what unites us again. And, as I've said before, I firmly believe our support for the forces of freedom in Ukraine will be steadfast in any season or storm," the head of the Pentagon stated.
