King Philip of Belgium called to continue resolutely supporting Ukraine, as it is defending not only its own sovereignty.
He said this in a speech on the eve of Belgium’s National Day, celebrated on July 21.
“In Ukraine, where the people continue to resist with extraordinary courage, a devastating war is ongoing. It is extremely important that we continue to resolutely support the Ukrainians,” Philip stated.
According to him, “by fighting to preserve their sovereignty, the Ukrainians are also defending our sovereignty.”
“For decades, international law has been a reliable foundation on which states could rely. Today, this foundation is openly being challenged. But when international law is violated, the whole world loses. Unpredictability and violence gain ground,” he noted.
The monarch added that there is an increase in conflicts in the world that, “as we believed, had remained in the past.”
“In this context, Europe continues to choose cooperation over confrontation,” Philip remarked.
